Changing the Directory of Your WordPress Site

Have you accidentally installed WordPress on example.coventry.domains/blog rather than just example.coventry.domains ?

This issue occurs because Installatron (the tool which installs apps on your cPanel account) puts in the /blog by default whenever you create a WordPress site, and you have to remove the /blog during the set up process.

It happens to the best of us, and luckily, there’s quite an easy fix. You just need to clone your site and choose a different directory.

Here’s a video to walk you through it:

Step by step instructions

Not a video person? Here’s how you do it:

  • Login to your cPanel account and select My Apps
  • Find the site you want to move and click the Clone button to the right of it
  • You’re now installing a copy of your WordPress to a new location – to install it on your root domain, delete /blog from the install location so that field remains blank
  • Click Install

Your site is now cloned to a new location- your root domain. After you’ve checked the new site is all working, you can delete the original one.
